Makinde: They Were the Ones that Went to Court and Lost; Wike’s Faction Did Not Go to Court- Ulasi
Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Chief Dan Ulasi, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the party’s national convention, stating that the legal action was initiated by the faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, not the camp loyal to Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Ulasi pushed back against claims that Wike’s faction engineered the court ruling, insisting that the case heard in Ibadan was filed by Makinde’s allies within the party.
“They were the ones that went to court in Ibadan and lost. Wike’s faction didn’t go to court,” Ulasi said, stressing that the judgment flowed directly from a failed legal challenge by the opposing bloc.
According to him, the Makinde-aligned group approached the court seeking declarations on the PDP’s leadership and internal processes, but the court declined to grant the reliefs sought. Ulasi argued that blaming Wike’s faction for the outcome amounts to a distortion of facts and only deepens the party’s internal crisis.
He maintained that the ruling has exposed serious strategic miscalculations within the party, warning that persistent misrepresentation of the case could further fracture the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ulasi’s remarks come amid escalating leadership disputes within the PDP following the nullification of its November 2025 national convention, a development that has intensified rivalry between the Makinde and Wike factions over control of the party’s national structure.
By explicitly distancing Wike’s camp from the Ibadan court action, Ulasi framed the crisis as largely self-inflicted, urging party leaders to confront internal contradictions rather than shift responsibility for decisions that backfired in court.
