Senate President’s Wife Sues Senator Natasha for N250 Billion in Damages and Public Apology
Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, has filed multiple lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The suits include claims of fundamental rights violations and defamation, stemming from statements made by the senator during a televised interview on Arise News.
In the fundamental rights case (Suit No: CV/814/25), Mrs. Akpabio alleges that Senator Natasha’s remarks, both on the Senate floor and on television, violated her fundamental rights. She seeks a court declaration affirming this violation, a perpetual injunction preventing further such statements, and N250 billion in damages for emotional and psychological distress caused to her and her children.
Additionally, in a separate defamation suit (Suit No: CV/816/25), Mrs. Akpabio claims that Senator Natasha’s televised accusation against her husband—alleging he made sexual advances—has severely damaged her family’s reputation. She demands a formal retraction, a public apology in The Guardian and This Day newspapers, and N1 billion in damages.
Both lawsuits also seek court orders to permanently restrain the senator from making further allegedly defamatory or harmful statements.
