Fubara’s Impeachment: I Have Told the Assembly to Obey Tinubu, I know They Will Not Hesitate- Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed cautious optimism regarding the resolution of the protracted political crisis in Rivers State.

In a statement made on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Wike noted that this marked the second significant intervention by President Bola Tinubu to broker peace between himself and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Minister’s remarks were captured in a video clip shared by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, on his X handle, where Wike stated his belief that, by the grace of God, this would be the final time such an intervention would be necessary.

He also disclosed that he had instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to obey the President’s directives, expressing confidence that they would not hesitate to comply, while also expecting the governor to fulfill his part of the agreement.

Wike said, “This is the second time the president is intervening, I believe by the grace of God this will be the last time. I have told the Assembly to obey the President, I know they will not hesitate. I also believe that the governor (Fubara) will carry out his own part.”

The meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja followed a fresh wave of impeachment moves against Governor Fubara by lawmakers loyal to Wike.

The legislators had recently served a notice citing gross misconduct and constitutional breaches, plunging the state into renewed instability.

President Tinubu’s mediation reportedly involved a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, as both political rivals were seen departing the Villa in the same vehicle after the closed-door session.

This latest peace deal aims to halt the legislative proceedings that have paralyzed governance in the oil-rich state for months.

While the specific terms of the settlement remain undisclosed, the intervention is viewed as a strategic move by the Presidency to stabilize the region ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
