Amaewhule:You Went To Tinubu & Told Him You’ve Made Peace, Only For You To Come And Give Orders-Sara-Igbe
According to a report by Symfoni TV, on Saturday January 31, 2026, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, a prominent Ijaw leader and former spokesperson for the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has leveled explosive allegations against the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.
In a scathing analysis of the state’s political turmoil, Sara-Igbe accused the Speaker of “deceiving” President Bola Tinubu regarding the status of the peace agreement with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking in an interview, the elder statesman argued that the Assembly’s recent threats to impeach both the Governor and Deputy Governor contradict the resolutions brokered by the Presidency, suggesting a “calculated attempt” to seize power through the back door.
Sara-Igbe criticized the Assembly leadership for allegedly performing a tactical U-turn. He claimed that while the Speaker presented an image of reconciliation to the President in Abuja, he returned to Rivers State only to issue aggressive ultimatums and unconstitutional demands.
“You went to the President and told Mr. President you have made peace, only for you to come and give orders,” Sara-Igbe stated. “Mr. Governor must submit a commissioner list. Mr. Governor must present a budget to you; Mr. Governor must do this, he must do that, or you will impeach him. And you are setting up an impeachable proceeding against him.”
A major point of contention for Sara-Igbe is the inclusion of the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, in the impeachment plot. He argued that the accusations against her are “unjustifiable” given the limited scope of her constitutional powers.
He pointed out that since she does not control state funds or serve as the final approving authority for government expenditure, targeting her is a move without legal or moral substance.
"Not only against the Governor, but also against the Deputy Governor. What has the Deputy Governor done? What are you accusing the Deputy Governor of? Is she the one to present the budget? Is she the one spending the money? So what is her sin?" he questioned.
The Ijaw leader further escalated the rhetoric by accusing Assembly members of financial impropriety.
He alleged that lawmakers received ₦350 million each for constituency projects that remain invisible to the public.
He suggested that the current hostility stems from the Governor's refusal to succumb to further financial demands from the legislature.
He described the Assembly’s refusal to allow the Governor to present the state budget despite a Supreme Court judgment as a "violation of the separation of powers" and a direct "affront to the people of Rivers State."
According to Sara-Igbe, this "political intimidation" has had a tangible negative impact on the state, effectively halting development and stalling the machinery of governance.
He maintained that the legislature’s refusal to cooperate with the executive arm is a disservice to the citizenry who are caught in the crossfire of this power struggle.
