ADC Woos Gawuna With Kano Governorship Ticket
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified efforts to persuade former Kano State governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, to contest the 2027 governorship election on its platform.
Sources said influential figures within the party have been consulting with Gawuna’s close political allies in a bid to convince him to accept the ADC ticket.
According to sources, the ADC has offered political concessions, including nominations for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats for some of Gawuna’s loyalists.
Daily Nigerian reports that the party is also said to have assured the former deputy governor of adequate financial support for his campaign if he agrees to join the race.
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Ambassador Faruk Yabo are reportedly among the prominent political figures leading efforts to bring Gawuna into the ADC.
Although Gawuna had earlier pledged loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement, sources said the pressure and offers from the ADC have triggered fresh consultations within his camp.
The ADC has yet to announce the winner of its Kano governorship primary contested by Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Little.
Party sources said the delay was linked to attempts to secure a deal with Gawuna, whose candidacy is believed could strengthen the party’s chances in Kano.
Gawuna, a former deputy governor of Kano State and APC governorship candidate in 2023, remains one of the most influential opposition figures in the state.
Political observers believe his grassroots support makes him attractive to parties seeking a strong challenger to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in 2027.
Orange reports that he had earlier been tipped as a possible governorship candidate of the NDC before Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso settled for immediate-past deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam.
