MALEMA TO SLEEP AT HOME

EFF leader Julius Malema has been granted leave to appeal his sentence.

Malema Walks Free as Court Grants Leave to Appeal Five-Year Sentence

Julius Malema left the dock a relieved man on Thursday, waving goodbye to Magistrate Twanet Olivier as he walked free, not into a prison cell, after the court granted him leave to appeal his five-year jail sentence.

The Economic Freedom Fighters leader, who had earlier been handed the landmark conviction over unlawful firearm handling and discharge, will remain out of custody as the appeal process unfolds, offering him a lifeline that keeps his political career and freedom intact for now.

The dramatic courtroom turn sparked visible relief from Malema, whose supporters had anxiously awaited the ruling outside court.
