35-yr-Old Woman Arrested for Throwing Her 5-yr-Old Son into the River based on Spiritual Advice in Edo State

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, identified as Osasere, for throwing her five-year-old son into River Ovia in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, local fishermen apprehended the woman shortly after the incident and prevented an angry mob from att@cking her. They also launched a search for the child by canoe.

In a video that has circulated online, the suspect claimed she became concerned because her son had not started walking despite being five years old. She also said she suffered multiple miscarriages after giving birth to him.

Osasere alleged that a friend introduced her to a seer who claimed the child was a “python spirit” responsible for her miscarriages. The seer reportedly advised her to throw the boy into the river if she wished to conceive again.

Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said the suspect was arrested on the day of the incident and remains in police custody while investigations continue.

The police said further details would be made available as the investigation progresses.
