Video: Hotel de Bently razed down by fire in Abuja
Another public building, Hotel de Bently located at the Okonjo Iweala Way in Utako District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has been gutted down by fire.
The fire which began around midnight of Monday March 9th, has been described by observers as ‘one disaster too many in Nigeria’s seat of power.
Recall that same Monday morning, a section of another public building, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federal (OHCSF), located at the Federal Secretariat opposite the Eagle Square was razed by fire as early as 8 am.
Commentators on social media have expressed shock at the ‘back to back’ fire outbreaks in Abuja noting with concern the need for fire safety measures.
One commentators, beeclassic_collections wrote “Praying there are no casualties there cause that blaze looks intense and the smoke us already covering so much area”.
Another, marheeya, commented “Abuja what’s happening?” while jefeemeka wrote “the fire incidents in Abuja us becoming one too many. What’s really going on?”
Meanwhile the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Paul Abraham who responded to our reporters query said the agency has been alerted of the incident and has responded accordingly.
He said “Our men turned out to the place about 9pm”.
Abraham also assured that he will keep the public abreast of developments as they unfold.
