Oyegun:When He Contested As VP To Shekarau, He Had A Wife, Children, Cooks; He Got 3 Votes- Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor and current senator, took a sharp jab at John Odigie-Oyegun during an APC event in Edo State welcoming new party members.

In a video circulated by Channels Television, Oshiomhole mocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over reported internal conflicts among its members in the state. He specifically targeted Oyegun—once Edo governor and later APC national chairman—questioning his political influence and grassroots support.

Referring to the 2011 presidential election, Oshiomhole recalled that Oyegun ran as running mate to former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau. He claimed Oyegun received only three votes in his own polling unit, despite having a household that included his wife, children, gatemen, cooks, stewards, and other staff—totaling at least 15 people.

Oshiomhole used this to argue that Oyegun lacked meaningful backing even from those closest to him.

He also accused a former Edo governor of once deducting 30 percent from civil servants’ salaries and asked whether the funds were ever refunded—clearly pointing toward Oyegun without naming him directly.

Oshiomhole described the ADC’s internal quarrels as evidence of weakness, expressing disappointment that senior politicians were publicly attacking one another.

In his own words:

“When he contested as vice-presidential candidate to Shekarau, in his house, at least he has a wife, children, gatemen, cooks and stewards, at least they are up to 15. In that election, he got three votes, which means members of his household didn’t vote for him.”
