RSHA: I Heard That Fubara Should Not Travel Without Clearance, He Should Not Appoint Anybody-Uranta
Public affairs analyst and author Somi Uranta has raised concerns over the political situation in Rivers State following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA), and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Uranta suggested that the agreements reached after the President’s peace move may have been signed under pressure. According to him, if the reported terms of the agreement are accurate, they could undermine the authority and independence of the governor’s office.
Uranta said he heard that Governor Fubara was restricted from traveling without clearance and was also prevented from making appointments. He argued that such conditions, if true, would reduce the powers attached to the office of the governor. He stressed that the issue goes beyond the individual currently occupying the seat and concerns the dignity and integrity of the office itself.
The analyst warned that weakening the authority of an elected governor for political reasons could create a dangerous precedent. He explained that decisions taken today may influence how future political disputes are handled, not just in Rivers State but across Nigeria.
Uranta maintained that while peace is important, it should not come at the cost of undermining constitutional offices. He emphasized that the governor’s office must be respected to protect democratic principles and ensure stability in governance.
In his words, “Well I heard that the governor should not travel without clearance, the governor should not appoint anybody. And so many things.”
