Nigerian woman dies 20 hours after arriving UK for child’s graduation ceremony
A Nigerian family has been thrown into mourning after a mother of four died less than 20 hours after arriving in the United Kingdom for her child’s graduation ceremony.
The woman, identified as Mrs Oluranti Olufunmilayo Esther Akinyemi (née Oluwalana/Ogundana), had travelled with joy and expectation, only for her visit to end in tragedy.
Sudden Collapse After Arrival
According to a post shared on X by SK the Plug, Mrs Akinyemi arrived in the UK on February 11, 2026. She had travelled ahead of her child’s graduation scheduled for February 18.
Family sources said she appeared fine after landing and was looking forward to celebrating the academic milestone.
However, in the early hours of February 12, she reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
She was rushed to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, where doctors battled to save her life.
Three Days in Coma
Medical staff placed her under close observation after the incident.
She remained in a coma for three days as her family held onto hope and prayed for a miracle.
Sadly, she was declared clinically dead on February 14, cutting short what was meant to be a joyful family reunion.
Shock and Grief
The news has left friends, relatives and members of the Nigerian community in deep shock.
Many described her as a devoted mother who made the journey to celebrate her child’s achievement.
Instead of attending a graduation ceremony, the family is now faced with the painful reality of planning her burial.
Tributes have continued to pour in on social media, with many expressing sorrow over the sudden loss and praying for strength for her children and loved ones.
