FCT Polls: Why Kuje Area Council Has Not Been Announced - INEC

The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, has revealed why the announcement of the chairmanship result was delayed.

Naija News reports that in an interview with The Nation, he said the delay was caused by unfinished collation in two wards, Central and Kabi, while results from the other eight wards had already been completed.

Dambo explained that some collation officers initially went to the wrong location, which slowed the process as they had to return to the INEC office before proceeding to the correct wards.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process.

“I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” Dambo said.

Kuje remains the only council in the FCT with an outstanding result, while the other five councils have concluded their elections.

Security around the INEC office in Kuje was increased, with party agents, journalists, and security personnel present, waiting for the Returning Officer to formally declare the winner.

In other FCT Area Council elections, APC candidates won in Bwari, Abuja Municipal, Abaji, and Kwali. Joshua Ishaku of the APC took Bwari with 18,466 votes. Christopher Maikalangu of the APC secured Abuja Municipal with 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes.

Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC won Abaji with 15,536 votes, while Nuhu Daniel of the APC was declared winner in Kwali with 17,032 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Kasim, emerged victorious in Gwagwalada with 22,165 votes, defeating his APC rival.
