When Fubara Was Coming, Wike Tried To Stop People From Coming To Receive Him In Port Harcourt-Igbe

Ijaw leader Anabs Sara-Igbe has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of trying to sabotage Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s public support by discouraging people from welcoming him back to Port Harcourt after the emergency rule period.

In an interview with Symfoni TV, Sara-Igbe described Wike’s alleged attempts to suppress the crowd’s enthusiasm for Fubara’s return. “When the governor was arriving, Wike tried to stop people from coming out to receive him in Port Harcourt. But you saw the massive crowd that turned out anyway. He tried various ways to discourage his supporters. Fubara’s people just stayed calm and silent,” he said.

Sara-Igbe emphasized that Fubara’s popularity is rooted in authentic public sentiment rather than money or patronage networks.

He argued that much of the current support for Fubara stems from widespread frustration with Wike’s political tactics and behavior. While Wike enjoyed eight uninterrupted years as governor, Sara-Igbe said he now refuses to grant his successor the same level of freedom and respect.

The Ijaw leader explained that many assembly members fear Fubara emerging as the APC leader in Rivers State, believing it could jeopardize their own political futures. “Their real worry is that if Sim becomes the APC leader and they have to join the APC, it may not guarantee their return to the assembly. So they are fighting dirty to force some compromise that will allow them to come back. That is the root of their fear,” Sara-Igbe stated.
