Senator Godiya Akwashiki Passes Away in Indian Hospital at 52
Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has died at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness. A family source confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Akwashiki passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, while receiving treatment in an Indian hospital.
The source described his death as a significant loss, noting Akwashiki’s dedication to the development of his senatorial district and his numerous empowerment initiatives. “Senator Akwashiki was the best Senator Nasarawa North has ever produced due to his purposeful leadership. His projects are visible across the constituency, and he remains the only senator from the zone to win a second term,” the source added.
Before his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. He was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State. His passing leaves a notable void in the political and developmental landscape of Nasarawa North.
