Rivers Crisis: Lawyer Warns Amaewhule Over Hotel Meeting to Sack Fubara

The legal battle over who controls Rivers State has taken a new turn as lawyers warn against “shortcut” tactics. Victor Giwa, a popular human rights lawyer, has told the Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers that they cannot sit in a hotel to serve Governor Siminalayi Fubara an impeachment notice.

Speaking on the matter, Giwa explained that the House of Assembly must follow the law strictly. He said doing official government business in a hotel instead of the proper Assembly complex is a total “absurdity” that the court will not accept.

Many Rivers residents are currently living in fear that this power struggle might lead to more protests and chaos in Port Harcourt. They just want the government to focus on working for the people instead of constant fighting.

Giwa warned that if the lawmakers don’t follow Section 188 of the Constitution, the whole process will just be a waste of time. He noted that Fubara must be given a fair hearing and served properly, or the court will simply throw the case out.

“It would be the greatest absurdity for the State House of Assembly to meet in a hotel to serve Fubara notice,” Giwa said, insisting that transparency is the only way to keep the peace.
