Five Soldiers K+lled as B@mber Hits Military Convoy in Borno
Five Nigerian soldiers were k+lled on Tuesday after a b@mber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, security sources confirmed.
Two senior officers, a major and a lieutenant, were among those affected, while an unspecified number of troops sustained inj¥ries.
The convoy was returning from a clearance operation that had dislodged several insurgent camps and neutralised multiple f+ghters when the incident occurred.
A soldier said the bl@st caused extensive d%mage to armoured and logistics vehicles, impacting equipment used for ongoing offensive and defensive operations. Despite the losses, military authorities said the operation has continued.
“Every operation comes with setbacks, but we have overcome this. Unfortunately, we lost five soldiers. The commander is safe, and operations are ongoing,” an officer said on condition of anonymity.
The remains of the fallen soldiers have been flown to Maiduguri, while inj¥red personnel are receiving medical treatment.
The Timbuktu Triangle is a known flashpoint in the insurgency and was previously the site of an ambush in which Brigadier General Musa Uba was captured and k+lled.
The att+ck followed recent successes by troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, under Operation DESERT SANITY.
In a statement, the operation’s spokesman, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said troops cleared several t%rrorists enclaves, including Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma, with support from the Air Component providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
He added that troops recovered w+apons, ammunition, communication devices, vehicles, medical supplies, food items and fuel dumps, further degrading insurgents’ capabilities. Attempts by terrorists to disrupt the operation using armed drones were repelled.
According to the military, morale remains high, operations will continue, and troops remain committed to restoring lasting peace and stability in the North East.
