19 Years Old Okon Driving A Fully Tinted Vehicle Without Number Plates Knocked Down 3 Officers - FPRO
The Nigeria Police Force has denounced what it termed a reckless and hazardous act by a 19-year-old driver, who allegedly endangered lives, injured police officers, and caused significant property damage while trying to evade arrest.
In a statement released on X on January 16, 2026, by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, it was noted that the incident took place a day earlier, on January 15, when police officers on routine patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle being driven dangerously.
The suspect, identified as Nsikak Okon, was reportedly behind the wheel of a heavily tinted, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK, violating traffic and security laws.
Hundeyin indicated that the officers became concerned when they observed the vehicle speeding past them recklessly.
In recounting the incident, the police spokesperson detailed that the driver repeatedly returned to the scene, each time displaying greater recklessness and disregard for safety.
“You were operating a heavily tinted vehicle without any number plates, and upon encountering police officers, you sped past them carelessly. You then returned, nearly striking an officer and, in what seemed to be a deliberate act, hit three officers on your subsequent return,” Hundeyin stated.
As a result of the impact, three officers sustained injuries and required immediate medical assistance. Hundeyin reported that two have since been treated and released, while the third remains hospitalized.
Despite injuring the officers, the driver continued to flee, endangering other road users as well. He reportedly collided with and damaged several other vehicles during his escape, creating chaos and risking additional injuries.
“Two officers have been discharged, but you continued to damage other vehicles before you were eventually captured,” the Force PRO noted.
The pursuit concluded when a combination of police and members of the community managed to apprehend the suspect. A search of the vehicle revealed substances believed to be illegal drugs, intensifying the seriousness of the situation.
"Your vehicle contained items suspected to be hard drugs," Hundeyin remarked, expressing concern over the suspect’s choices.
In a moment that highlighted the severity of the situation, the police spokesperson directly questioned the suspect's reasoning for such actions at a young age, asking, “Why have you chosen to start your 2026 like this, 19-year-old Nsikak Okon?”
The police emphasized that this incident serves as a powerful reminder of the hazards associated with reckless driving and noncompliance with police orders. They reiterated their commitment to holding individuals accountable for actions that jeopardize public safety and the lives of law enforcement personnel.
