Update: No Lives or Property Lost as Residents Confirm Drone Att+cks in Parts of Sokoto
Residents of Tangaza and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have confirmed separate drone att+cks on their communities, which they allege were carried out by the United States military.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that one of the incidents occurred in Jabo District, Tambuwal Local Government Area—an area previously untouched by insecurity. Locals said the development triggered p+nic, as residents were caught unawares by the sudden appearance of an object resembling a small aircraft hovering over the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the object struck the ground, creating a large crater, while fire was still burning at the scene. They, however, noted that the device did not land on residential buildings and that no injuries or casualties were recorded.
Residents also claimed to have recovered metal fragments from the site and said they intend to hand them over to security agencies for further investigation.
Similarly, inhabitants of Tangaza Local Government Area confirmed attacks on locations believed to be hideouts of the Lakurawa group. A local government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the strikes occurred between 10 p.m. and midnight at Warriya and Alkasim villages.
The official stated that the full impact of the att+cks, including possible civilian casualties, had yet to be determined, adding that security operatives were expected to visit the affected areas to verify the situation.
However, several sources, including local authorities, maintained that no airstrikes were recorded in the eastern part of Sokoto State, despite the region experiencing banditry for more than a decade.
Efforts to obtain a response from the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
