Tinubu forwards names of Ibas, Dambazau, and Gambari for ambassadorial appointment
President Bola Tinubu has submitted a new list of 65 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
The request was read on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the correspondence, the list comprises 34 Career Ambassadors and High Commissioners and 31 Non-Career Ambassadors and High Commissioners.
Among the career nominees are notable diplomats such as Sulu-Gambari Olatunde Ahmed from Kwara State and Segun Ige from Edo State.
Prominent names on the non-career list include former senators Folasade Grace Bent (Adamawa), Solomon Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom), and Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo).
The President also nominated Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State, and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff, as non-career ambassadors.
Their names did not appear in the earlier batch released by the presidency.
Meanwhile, three previously nominated ambassadors ,Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo), have already been screened by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The newly forwarded 65 nominees have also been referred to the same committee, with instructions to complete their screening within one week.
