“Tinubu Didn’t See Me Fit To Be Appointed Ambassador Untill We Had The Current Crisis” Baba Ahmed
A report by Channels TV states that on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, criticized the timing of the President’s latest ambassador appointments. He deemed the move too late, given the limited duration of the ambassadors’ service.
Baba-Ahmed, known for his candid opinions, expressed that he would not commend the President for this decision, particularly since the topic of diplomatic representation has been raised multiple times previously.
“I will not praise President Tinubu. This action is quite delayed,” he commented, pointing out that the newly appointed ambassadors would have very little time in their roles before their eventual departure.
“These outgoing ambassadors are likely to serve for just under a year and a half,” he observed.
He stressed that the need for these appointments had been recognized well ahead of this moment but was only acted upon in response to a crisis.
“We have brought up the matter of ambassador appointments several times before. Unfortunately, the President did not consider it urgent until we faced the current crisis,” he said.
In conclusion, the former adviser maintained that the appointments came too late, even though they have now been made official.
“Regrettably, I believe this should have been addressed much sooner, but that’s already a settled matter.”
