Tinubu Approved Str+kes On Foreign ISIS Elements In Sokoto— Mohammed Idris
President Bola Tinubu has approved joint precision str+ke operations by Nigerian forces and the United States against two major Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Idris said the str+kes were carried out in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, targeting terr+rist hideouts in the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area. Intelligence reports indicated that the locations were being used by foreign ISIS elements infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region in coordination with local affiliates.
“The precision str+ke operations were executed between 00:12 hours and 01:30 hours following explicit approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the minister stated, adding that the operation was conducted under established command-and-control structures with the full involvement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He explained that the str+kes were launched from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea after extensive intelligence gathering and reconnaissance, with 16 GPS-guided precision munitions deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms to neutralise the targeted ISIS elements.
Idris disclosed that debris from the operation fell in parts of Sokoto and Kwara states but stressed that no civilian casualties were recorded. He reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to confront transnational terr+rist thr+ats and assured Nigerians that the government remains firmly in control of the nation’s security architecture.
