Nigerian Military Praises U.S. for Carrying Out Precision Airstr+kes on ISIS-Linked T+rrorists in Northwest
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have announced the successful execution of precision airstrikes against identified foreign ISIS-linked t+rrorist elements operating in parts of the Northwest, in close collaboration with the United States.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, said the operation reflects the Federal Government’s determination to eliminate transnational t+rrorism.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in conjunction with the United States of America, has successfully conducted precision strike operations against identified foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in parts of North West Nigeria,” Uba said.
He explained that the strikes were based on credible intelligence and careful planning, aimed at significantly degrading the t+rrorits’ operational capacity while minimising collateral d@mage.
“This action clearly demonstrates the unwavering resolve of the Federal Government of Nigeria, working with strategic international partners, to confront transnational t+rrorism and prevent foreign f%ghters from gaining a foothold within our borders,” he added.
Uba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the Armed Forces would continue to support joint, inter-agency and international efforts to restore lasting peace and security nationwide.
The development follows a confirmation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which highlighted ongoing structured security and intelligence cooperation with international partners, including the United States.
In a separate statement signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the ministry said the collaboration—covering intelligence sharing and strategic coordination in line with international law—has enabled effective precision operations against terrorist targets.
The ministry stressed that Nigeria’s counter-t+rrorism strategy prioritises civilian protection, national unity and the rights of all citizens, adding that no civilian casualties were recorded in the str+kes, which targeted known militant camps.
