‘I Am Deeply Saddened’ - Timipre Sylva Declares, Tells Why

Former minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, has announced the death of Solomon Baribote, a close aide and longtime associate, describing the loss as a deeply personal blow that has left him heartbroken.

In a tribute, Sylva said Baribote was not just an aide but a trusted brother, dear friend and ardent supporter whose sincerity, commitment and steadfast loyalty distinguished him.

He fondly referred to him as “Kenoo, kenoo, kenoo,” noting that his absence would be profoundly felt. “Solomon will be sorely missed, but his memory and service will remain forever etched in our hearts,” Sylva said as he prayed for the repose of his soul.

The passing comes against the backdrop of renewed public attention on Sylva following recent developments involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The anti-graft agency had earlier declared the former minister wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation, a move his camp has strongly contested.

An aide to Sylva has claimed that some members of his team are currently in detention, while members of his family are allegedly under close surveillance.

“Some of his men are in detention and his family is under close watch, which has made this period extremely distressing,” the aide said, insisting that the situation goes beyond routine investigation.

Despite the legal and political pressure surrounding him, Sylva has continued to engage with supporters and associates, while also reflecting on personal losses within his inner circle.

Observers note that Baribote’s death has added an emotional layer to an already challenging period for the former Bayelsa governor, who remains a significant figure in national political conversations, particularly on energy sector issues and party affairs.

Sylva said the late Baribote exemplified loyalty beyond politics and office, stressing that his life of service would not be forgotten even as events continue to unfold around him.
