Chaos erupts in the Senate as lawmakers reject the ‘bow and go’ privilege for Defence Minister nominee, ex-CDS Musa

A rowdy scene broke out in the Senate on Wednesday after several lawmakers opposed a proposal to excuse former Chief of Defence Staff and ministerial nominee, Christopher Musa, from questioning.

Tension flared when Senator Sani Musa (Niger East) suggested that the nominee should simply “take a bow and go.” The proposal was immediately rejected, with lawmakers rising in protest and shouting across the chamber.

Senator Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South) was particularly furious, striding toward the Senate President’s seat and insisting that the nominee must face questioning.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio intervened to restore order, stressing that the screening exercise demanded transparency and public engagement.

“Our constituents want to hear from him,” Akpabio said. “This is not a period to say ‘bow and go.’ Even Donald Trump is on our neck. With over 200 children in the bush being tortured, Nigerians need hope.”

Following the intervention, calm returned and the Senate proceeded with a full-scale screening of the retired military officer.
