Rivers: If Nobody Comes Out To Vote, RSIEC Will Sit At Home Write Result And Declare Winner-Imeabe
Oscar Savior Imeabe, President of the South-South Youth Initiative, has expressed strong doubts about the fairness of the forthcoming local government elections in Rivers State, warning that the electoral process could be compromised.
During a recent interview on SYMFONI TV, he accused the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of potentially announcing fabricated results in the absence of significant voter participation.
Imeabe asserted that if voter turnout remains extremely low, RSIEC may resort to writing results from the comfort of their offices. “When no one comes out to vote, RSIEC will just sit back, write the results, and announce whoever they choose as the winner,” he said, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the elections.
His remarks come as tensions rise in the state due to prolonged political infighting and growing public frustration. Many have criticized the lack of voter sensitization, transparency, and authentic political engagement leading up to the polls.
Imeabe’s statement reflects a broader concern shared by youth leaders and civil society advocates who believe the elections may be manipulated to produce predetermined outcomes. He urged relevant authorities and the electoral commission to uphold democratic values by ensuring a transparent and credible election process.
He further warned that announcing results without actual votes would signal the collapse of the democratic system. As election day nears, RSIEC is under mounting pressure to prove its neutrality and credibility. The commission has not yet issued any public response to Imeabe’s accusations.
