Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade, commends Army Chief for encouraging hosting of tournaments


The Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Emmanuel Egbe, has commended the Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagabaja, for providing the enabling environment to host tournaments.


Egbe gave the commendation at the closing ceremony of the final match of Second Edition of the Brigade Commander’s Cup, Christmas Edition, of the final football match between Guru FC and Abu Ali FC, held at the Green Beret Football field, Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi.


“Permit me to thank our amiable Chief of Army Staff Lt General T. Labgaja, Nigerian Army Medals, for the direction that he has provided and the enabling environment for us hosting such tournaments,” he said.


He explained that the Brigade Commander’s Cup tournament was in line with one of the pillars of the Army Chief to improve physical fitness and military-civil to improve physical fitness 


“One of his command’s philosophy focuses on training and collaboration in a joint environment,” he noted


Thus the competition targeted our soldiers to improve their physical fitness, our youths to engage them through sports and our civilian friends and neighbor, to improve civil-military cooperation.


“I am so glad that we have achieved all of the targets as the players have shown that sports is not just about winning or losing but more of team work, cooperation, hard work and doggedness


Brig-General Egbe thanked the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigeria Army, Jos who is also Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General A. E Abubakar, for his unwavering support for the tournament, including financial support.


“I must also recognize specially, my good friend, Mr Sonny Akapson, the coach of the National Volleyball team, traditional rulers, volunteer , support staff, corp members and all those who worked behind the scene to make the Commander’s Cup competition a success,” he said.


Speaking at the tournament as the Special Guest of Honour, the Managing Director, Nigerian Army Special Vehicles Plant, Major General A.U Obiwulu, urged the eight teams that participated in the football tournament .
