48-year-old American Man Convicted Of S+xually A§§aulting Teen Girl On Flight While Travelling With Wife And Four Children
A 48-year-old Boston father, Jonathan Alan Lefman, has been convicted of s+xually a§§aulting a 17-year-old girl aboard a JetBlue flight while travelling with his wife and four children.
Lefman was found guilty of one count of ab¥sive s+xual contact following a three-day jury trial over the August 30, 2024 incident on a flight from Puerto Rico to Boston, the US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts announced.
Prosecutors said he repeatedly touched the teenager’s buttocks without her consent by squeezing his hand between the back and bottom of her seat.
The victim noticed Lefman’s reflection leaning between the seats on the monitor in front of her. She subsequently photographed his fingers protruding from beneath her seat, providing evidence of the alleged a§§ault.
According to an affidavit, Lefman’s 16-year-old son was seated beside him while the incident occurred.
After the flight landed, an adult female relative of the teenager, who had been seated in another row, confronted Lefman and reported him to a JetBlue supervisor. She also presented a video showing his fingers as evidence.
Lefman, who reportedly lives in a $2.3 million home in Newton, claimed he had been stretching and apologised. However, when investigators asked whether he recognised the fingers captured in the footage, he responded, “Not really, no.”
US Attorney Leah B. Foley condemned his actions, stating, “The defendant repeatedly s+xually ab¥sed a minor who was simply trying to travel safely aboard a commercial flight.”
FBI Boston Division Special Agent in Charge Ted E. Docks also praised the verdict, saying it delivered justice for a young teenager who displayed remarkable courage after an appalling act.
Lefman is scheduled to be sentenced on January 12, 2027. He faces up to two years in prison, five years to life of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $250,000.
