“Wike’s Statements About What Tinubu Told Him Privately Are Creating Problem For The Party-Chidolue

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign spokesperson, Ike Chidolue, has advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to be more careful when speaking publicly about private discussions he may have had with President Bola Tinubu.

Chidolue made the remarks during an appearance on TVC Breakfast’s FCT Brief, where he discussed the political developments surrounding Wike and the internal challenges facing the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Chidolue, Wike’s repeated public comments about conversations allegedly held with President Tinubu could create unnecessary concerns within the APC. He maintained that sensitive discussions involving the president, governors and political strategies should generally remain confidential rather than becoming matters of public debate.

“Wike needs to zip it; we are going into an election and his statements about what Tinubu privately told him are creating problems for the party,” Ike Chidolue said.

Chidolue was responding to statements attributed to Wike regarding his relationship with Tinubu and certain political responsibilities he claimed had been entrusted to him by the president. He argued that suggestions that Tinubu had given Wike responsibilities that could not be assigned to governors might create questions among other members of the party.

He explained that governors who hear such remarks could begin to wonder about their own relationships with the president and their respective roles within the APC’s broader political structure. According to him, such perceptions could contribute to unnecessary tension at a time when the party should be focused on maintaining cohesion.

Chidolue further urged political leaders to exercise restraint in their public statements as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify. He stressed that unity and effective communication would be important to the APC as it navigates its political activities ahead of the election.

The former campaign spokesperson clarified that his criticism was not directed at Wike’s decision to grant interviews or speak about his responsibilities as FCT minister. Rather, he said his concern was specifically about the disclosure of private conversations allegedly held between Wike and Tinubu.

Chidolue maintained that repeatedly discussing confidential political exchanges in public could complicate internal disagreements and increase tensions among party members. He consequently advised Wike to limit his public references to private interactions with the president and allow sensitive political matters to be handled through appropriate internal channels.

His comments come amid continuing political discussions within the APC as politicians and party members position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
