I Dare the FCT Minister to Show the People the Votes and the Day the Loan Approval Was Given—Kingibe

According to a report by Daily Trust on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Senate, challenged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to produce the Senate’s Votes and Proceedings showing that the loans obtained by the FCT Administration received the required legislative approval.

Kingibe’s response followed Wike’s rejection of her earlier claim that the FCT Administration had obtained loans without the approval of the National Assembly. Wike had said such borrowing could not be undertaken without legislative approval and criticized Kingibe over her comments.

Kingibe said her responsibility as a senator was to ask questions, demand accountability, and scrutinize public borrowing and the conduct of government officials. She also rejected Wike’s comments about her political future, saying the decision on who represents the FCT in the Senate in 2027 belongs to the electorate.

She said, “As for not getting approval for the loans, I dare the FCT minister to show the people of the FCT, and all who have asked, the votes and proceedings of the day the approval was given.”

“I cannot speak for the House of Representatives, but I know that it was never brought before the Senate.”

Kingibe further said public officials should remain subject to scrutiny regardless of their positions, adding that she would continue to raise issues concerning the interests of FCT residents.

The dispute between Kingibe and Wike follows their differing positions over the FCT Administration’s borrowing and the process through which the loans were approved. The House of Representatives’ Deputy Spokesperson, Philip Agbese, has separately said Wike followed due process in obtaining funds for FCT infrastructure.
