God is non-binary, He is trans. Mary assigned Jesus male at birth, but when He resurrected, He came back as transgender — Episcopal priestess, Rev. Flourish Klink makes bold claims

An Episcopal priestess Rev Flourish Klink has told a congregation at New York City’s Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine that God is trans and argued that Jesus can be understood as having transitioned following his resurrection.

Klink delivered the remarks during the cathedral’s Celebration of Trans Joy and Resilience, a noonday prayer service organised with the Episcopal Diocese of New York.

In a sermon published by Klink, she argued that God exists beyond conventional human categories of male and female and therefore described God as non-binary and, more specifically, trans.

She then applied the argument to the birth of Jesus, claiming that Mary effectively assigned God a gender based on the baby’s physical appearance.

“When God, who, as we have established, is non-binary, was born in human form as our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary said, ‘Oh look, a baby boy.’ God isn’t a boy. We have established this. God is beyond boy and girl,” she said.

Klink explained that transgender people can be assigned a gender at birth based on physical characteristics, only to later realise that the assigned gender does not reflect their identity. She used that framework to argue that Jesus, as God in human form, was similarly assigned a gender at birth that did not correspond with God’s true identity.

The priestess also pointed to Jesus’ interactions with women, his unmarried status and what she described as his failure to conform to some traditional gender expectations of first-century Judean society. However, she acknowledged that the Bible does not establish whether Jesus was married.

Klink further turned to the resurrection, noting that Jesus’ disciples initially failed to recognise him after he rose from the dead.

“The Bible doesn’t tell us why it is that Jesus’s best friends, his disciples still didn’t recognize Jesus for a good long time,” she said.

She then offered her interpretation, saying, “I think Jesus was resurrected as Jesus’s true self, which is beyond male or female. I think Jesus was not only transfigured, I think Jesus transitioned.”
