Generational Curses Can Sometimes Be Behavioural Patterns That Must Be Broken — Pastor Bunmi George

Pastor and wellness entrepreneur, Bunmi George, speaking on The Shining Light Show, has explained that what people often call generational curses can sometimes be behavioural patterns passed down and repeated within families.

She said, “Did you know that sometimes these generational curses that we talk about, they’re actually behaviors. Your grandmother behaved a certain way. She’s a powerful woman. Nobody can dominate her. Your grandmother was married four times. Your mother too was trained in that type of home. No man can tell me anything. She divorced your father. She married another man. She has three children from three different men.”

According to her, people can unknowingly repeat the same patterns they witnessed in previous generations.

“You too, what do you mean? You can’t talk to me like that. It’s a behavioral pattern that you must, as a woman or a man, say this happened to my father. This happened to my grandfather. This happened to my great-grandfather. Now it’s happening to me.”

She also used marriage to illustrate how such patterns can continue, saying, “I’m treating my wife the way my father treated my mother. Even though I vowed that I’m going to treat my wife better.”

George stressed that making a vow alone is not enough, adding, “But it’s not only about vowing. You must replace it with something higher.”

She encouraged people to seek God through prayer, learn from Jesus and allow their hearts to change. She also advised those struggling with deeply rooted patterns to seek professional help.

“People like that might need therapy. Go and get professional help,” she said, while urging couples to show “a lot of grace and a lot of compassion” and work “hand in hand” to keep their marriage from breaking down.
