Abba Kyari Was Preparing To Contest For President, He Feared Wike Would Challenge His Ambition- Awara

According to a video posted on Nevon HQ on Wednesday September 23, 2026, Dr. Biokpomabo Awara said the chief of staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari worked against his 2019 governorship bid because he viewed a rival politician, Rotimi Amaechi, as a future threat to his own political ambitions.

Speaking on Nevon HQ, Awara said this rivalry played out in the background of his election dispute.

Awara said he learned of this motive through conversations that took place around the time of his court case, describing how the chief of staff was said to be positioning himself for a future presidential run.

He said the chief of staff appeared concerned that allowing a governor aligned with Amaechi to emerge from Rivers State would strengthen a potential opponent.

In his words, Awara said, “as of that time Abakari was preparing to contest for president and he was seeing honorable minister as somebody that will be powerful to contest against him.

“ So he stood his ground making sure that this thing go that way... he was seeing having a governor from River State will be a problem to him and decided to also go that way.”

Awara said he and his allies tried repeatedly to reach the chief of staff to appeal for a fair outcome but were unsuccessful.

He said this alleged political calculation, more than anything else, explained why his case moved the way it did, from a suspended collation process to a result he says was later rewritten in his opponent’s favor.

Awara said he holds no lasting bitterness toward those involved, adding that he has chosen to focus on building his own political future rather than dwelling on what happened in 2019.
