Wike:The Only People Who Can Decide Whether I Return In 2027 Are God & The People Of The FCT-Kingibe

In a recent interview on Channels TV, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Ireti Kingibe, Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, discussed the political situation in the FCT and the possibility of returning to the Senate in the 2027 elections.

During the interview, Kingibe stated, “The only people who can decide whether I return in 2027 are God and the people of the FCT.” She made the statement while responding to the political disagreement between herself and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to Kingibe, her political future is ultimately in the hands of God and the electorate in the Federal Capital Territory. She maintained that no individual politician can independently determine whether she returns to the Senate.

Kingibe explained that the people of the FCT are the ones who will decide who represents them in the Senate during the 2027 election. She said the democratic process gives voters the authority to make that decision.

The senator also discussed her disagreements with Wike over issues relating to the administration of the FCT. She maintained that her interventions are based on her responsibilities as a legislator representing the territory.

Kingibe said she would continue to raise concerns about matters affecting residents of the FCT, including issues involving infrastructure, planning and the implementation of the Abuja master plan.

She maintained that political disagreements should not prevent elected officials from carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

The senator further said that her focus remained on representing her constituents and performing her duties in the National Assembly.

Kingibe argued that the 2027 election would ultimately provide FCT residents with the opportunity to decide whether they wanted her to continue representing them in the Senate.

She concluded that the decision about her return to the Senate in 2027 belongs to God and the people of the Federal Capital Territory.
