Pictures: Governor Fubara Attends 2026 NBA Conference, Urges Lawyers to Defend Democracy
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, attended the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, where he urged lawyers to defend the Constitution, protect citizens’ rights and uphold the rule of law.
Speaking at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Governor Fubara also called on the judiciary to remain independent, impartial and courageous, while highlighting his administration’s support for the judiciary.
The outgoing NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, said the theme, “Beyond Limits,” reflects the Association’s commitment to protecting constitutional democracy and the rule of law. He explained that the conference was moved to 2026 after Port Harcourt could not host the 2025 edition due to the state of emergency.
Osigwe commended Governor Fubara for his commitment to democracy and his support for the judiciary.
Former Liberian President George Weah, who attended delivered the keynote address, callinf for a fearless and independent judiciary, warning that weakening judicial institutions poses a serious threat to democracy.
The conference brought together legal practitioners from Nigeria and beyond in Port Harcourt.
