Osun Poll: Davido Alleges Soldiers Blocking His Entry Into State
According to a report by Arise News on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as voting continued in the governorship election.
Davido made the allegation in a post on his verified X account, claiming that he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” he wrote.
His allegation came amid a movement restriction imposed across Osun State as part of security measures for the election.
The Nigeria Police Force had announced that movement across the state would be restricted from midnight on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, with thousands of police officers and other security personnel deployed to maintain security during the poll.
Davido, who is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively supporting his uncle’s re-election bid on the platform of the Accord Party.
However, his allegation has generated mixed reactions, with some social media users pointing to the already announced movement restriction as a possible explanation for security checks at entry points into the state.
Others questioned whether the restriction was being selectively enforced.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido’s claim as “dramatic”, arguing that the movement restriction had already been publicly announced by security agencies.
Ahmad said the restriction was a standard election security measure and maintained that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from lawful security measures introduced to protect the electoral process.
Davido’s allegation had not been independently verified at the time of the report, and it was not immediately clear whether soldiers had specifically barred him from entering Osun or were enforcing the general movement restriction announced ahead of the election.
The development comes as Osun voters continue to cast their ballots across the state amid heightened security and reports of other election-related incidents.
