Osun Election: Sowore Hits Back at Davido After Adeleke’s Re-election

The Sun Nigeria reported on Sunday, August 16, 2026, that after Governor Ademola Adeleke won the Osun State governorship election, the political dispute between activist and politician Omoyele Sowore and Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, intensified.

The most recent exchange between the two Nigerians occurred on X, the former name of Twitter, after Davido allegedly said, “Ur a useless man,” in response to a post made by Sowore.

The conversation came after Sowore made a number of political remarks denouncing Davido and his family for their alleged connection to President Bola Tinubu and their involvement in Osun politics.

The Adeleke family was accused by Sowore of trying to keep political power in Osun State while also siding with the federal government of Tinubu.

Sowore claimed in one of his posts that Davido and his family were attempting to “have it both ways” by engaging in political hedging and opportunism.

He accused Davido of supporting the Tinubu government and questioned the family’s ongoing influence in Osun politics.

Sowore also posted screenshots of posts purportedly written by Davido, such as one in which the singer seemed to disassociate himself from endorsing any presidential candidate and another in which he purportedly justified his support for Tinubu by citing the president’s ties to Osun State.

After Ademola Adeleke won reelection in Saturday’s governorship election, the dispute grew more heated.

Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party platform, defeated All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, his closest opponent, according to post-election results. Adeleke received 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815.

Sowore returned to the social media controversy after the statement, saying he was happy that Davido had blocked him on X as a result of his criticism.

Sowore wrote, “I’m glad the message got thru so well that you had to block me here on @X.”

Then, in an effort to disassociate himself from the effects of the president's policies, he accused Davido of endorsing Tinubu.

According to Sowore, Davido was unable to support Tinubu, go to meetings with him, and keep in touch with members of the president's political network while simultaneously rejecting the political fallout from those decisions.

Along with criticizing the Adeleke family's power in Osun, the activist called on the family to own up to the shortcomings of the APC-led federal government.

Sowore called on the Adeleke family to take into account the economic challenges facing Nigerians and further claimed that the Tinubu administration had performed poorly. He also accused the Adeleke family of treating the Osun State treasury as a "family jackpot."

He concluded his post with the hashtags #Sowore2027 and #TinubuMustGo, indicating that the conflict is also connected to the larger political struggle leading up to the general election in 2027.

The altercation follows a public altercation between Davido and Sowore over remarks made about Governor Adeleke prior to the Osun election. Sowore's criticism of the governor and the Adeleke family's political power in the state were the main points of contention in the earlier dispute.
