In Case Wike Has Forgotten, Three of the G5 Govs Who Attempted To Win Senatorial Seats Failed-Momodu

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reminded former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike that governors do not have unlimited political power.

Momodu made the statement during an interview on News Central TV while reacting to Wike’s claim that he would have gone to Osun State and helped the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had wanted victory at all costs.

According to Momodu, Wike’s claim was an empty boast, arguing that his presence in Osun would not have made a difference because the Senate President and several APC governors had already visited the state to support the party’s candidate.

He also recalled the political experience of the five governors who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2023 election and became known as the G5.

Momodu pointed out that three of the G5 governors from Abia, Enugu and Benue later attempted to win senatorial seats in their respective states but failed.

He said the outcome showed that being a governor does not automatically give a politician total control over voters or guarantee victory in an election.

Momodu further warned that Wike’s comments should be taken seriously as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, suggesting that the former governor may be preparing to play a major role in helping the APC.

In his words, “I need to also remind Nyesom Wike, in case he has already forgotten, that five of them abandoned PDP in the last election, ans three of them, from Abia, Enugu and Benue, the governors, three of the G5 Governors attempted to win senatorial seats in their respective states, and also failed spectacularly.”
