EFCC Told Bewildered Nation That Okowa, Fmr Gov Of Delta State,Embezzled 1.3T Ecological Fund-Jackson

Dr. Omenazu Jackson, Chancellor of the Anti-Society for Social Justice & Human Rights, has stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, embezzled over ₦1.3 trillion from the ecological fund.

In an interview posted by Arise News on August 1, 2026, Omenazu Jackson spoke about what he described as the failure of the EFCC to fully carry out its duties. He questioned why some politicians accused of financial misconduct and other forms of corruption could continue to move freely despite ongoing investigations.

According to him, the EFCC itself reported that the former governor allegedly embezzled over ₦1.3 trillion while he was in office. However, Jackson expressed concern that several years after Okowa left office, he has continued to enjoy his freedom while the investigation into the matter has not been concluded.

He argued that such a situation could make Nigerians lose confidence in the ability of anti-corruption agencies to bring high-profile cases to a conclusion. He also questioned why individuals facing serious allegations could continue with their normal activities while Nigerians wait for investigations to be completed.

In his words:

“The agonizing aspect of it is that EFCC told a bewildered nation that somebody like Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, embezzled 1.3 trillion ecological fund. It is not from me. It is not from you. It is from EFCC that is saddled with that investigation, and they came up to tell Nigeria, and this is what they have found out. Almost 3 years later, Okowa left office, that young man enjoys the freedom, rides in bulletproof cars, and flies in private jets. Yet investigation has not been concluded.”

Jackson’s statement focused on the need for the EFCC to ensure that investigations involving politically exposed persons are handled properly and brought to a clear conclusion.

He maintained that when an anti-corruption agency makes serious allegations against a former public office holder, Nigerians expect the agency to follow the matter through and provide a clear outcome.

The comments have also raised questions about the pace of high-profile corruption investigations and whether the public is adequately informed about the progress of such cases.
