As OBJ Became Pres He Said All Military Men Who Took Part In Political Governance Must Leave-Irabor
Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has stated that he joined the Army during the period of military rule and that military rule did not benefit the military itself
In an interview with AIT, General Irabor stated that when Olusegun Obasanjo became president at the beginning of the Fourth Republic, Obasanjo directed that military officers who had participated in the political governance of the country should leave the service.
General Irabor said the officers were initially compulsorily retired. He added that the policy was later changed, allowing the affected officers to retire voluntarily instead.
In General Irabor’s words: “This was the same reason why Obasanjo when he came in at the beginning of this fourth republic, he said that any officer who had taken part in political governance of the country must leave and of course they were all retired compulsorily. And then later on they changed that to voluntarily retirement”
