2027: Fubara Support Group Makes Political U-Turn, Dumps Structure for Wike’s Rainbow Coalition

According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday 30 August 2026, a political support group in Rivers State, Rivers Women Unite for Sim (RWUS), has announced the collapse of its structure into the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Rainbow Coalition associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The move comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the group calling on women across the state to take greater interest in the electoral process.

The convener of RWUS, Sotonye Toby-Fulton, made the call during the group’s monthly prayer meeting in Port Harcourt, which was held under the theme, “Peace Be Still.”

Toby-Fulton urged women who had yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so, while those with temporary voter cards were advised to complete the registration process and collect their permanent cards.

She described the PVC as an important instrument through which citizens could exercise their political rights and influence the choice of leaders.

According to her, women should not allow fear or political intimidation to discourage them from participating in the 2027 elections.

She also warned against vote-selling, urging women not to exchange their votes for money or other temporary benefits.

Toby-Fulton stressed that while prayers were important, citizens must also play their part by turning out to vote when the election arrives.

Speaking separately, former Rivers State chairperson of the Federation of International Women Lawyers, Adata Bio-Briggs, said securing a PVC was only the first step, urging voters to also appear at their polling units on election day.

Bio-Briggs maintained that citizens must actively participate in elections if they want to demand better governance and bring about meaningful change.

Also, Dr Caroline Okpokiri urged women to mobilise ahead of the elections, saying mothers could play a significant role in encouraging their families to participate in the democratic process.

She called on women to vote, remain peaceful and ensure that their votes were properly protected and counted.

The group’s activities are expected to add to the growing political mobilisation in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
