Wike Has Replied David Mark Because He Damaged Himself By Saying Is It Road That We’ll Chop?— Umahi


According to a report by Daily Post, on Thursday July 2, 2026, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has defended the road construction projects being carried out by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for responding to recent comments made by David Mark.


‎Umahi spoke on Wednesday during the launch of the Akwanga–Jos Super Highway project, he used the occasion to highlight the importance of road infrastructure to national development and economic growth.


His statements came after David Mark questioned the federal government’s focus on road construction at a time many Nigerians are facing economic challenges, Mark had suggested that roads alone could not solve the hardship experienced by citizens and called for greater attention to other pressing issues.


‎The comments sparked reactions from political leaders and government officials, Wike was among those who responded, the FCT minister recalled the poor state of the road linking Abuja to Otukpo, Mark’s hometown, during the period when Mark served as Senate President, Wike argued that road infrastructure remains a critical part of national development and should not be dismissed.


‎Speaking at the event, Umahi expressed support for Wike’s position, he said road projects play a major role in connecting communities, boosting trade, and creating opportunities for businesses, according to him, transportation infrastructure is one of the foundations upon which economic growth is built.


‎“I want to thank the factional chairman of ADC, my name sake, David Mark. He was going to say that Tinubu has done very well in infrastructure, he was going to say that but my brother Wike has replied him. Because he damaged himself by saying ‘is it road that we will chop?” he said.
