Hisbah Bans Movie Downloads on Phones in Kano to Protect Islamic Values

The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to protect public morality and uphold Islamic values.

The directive was announced on Thursday by the board’s Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, who said the decision followed complaints that some operators were using mobile phones to circulate pornographic films and other video content considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.

According to him, the board has deployed Hisbah personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state. He warned that anyone found violating the directive would face legal action in line with the laws of Kano State.

Aminuddeen also advised those affected by the ban to explore other lawful means of earning a living, noting that the measure is intended to shield young people from harmful content and help preserve societal values.

He added that the increasing rate of moral decadence among youths has been linked to the consumption of indecent films and videos.

The Kano State Hisbah Board, which is responsible for enforcing Sharia-related regulations, has over the years introduced several measures aimed at promoting Islamic values and restricting activities or content considered contrary to the state’s religious and cultural norms.
