A 500-level student of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), Rebecca Kambai, has d+ed after a hit-and-run driver rammed into the motorcycle she was riding in Bauchi State.
The 19-year-old had just returned home for the holidays when the tragedy occurred on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
A family source said Rebecca had forgotten some belongings at school, which her friends sent from Azare. She went with her brother on a motorcycle to collect them from a driver at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel.
While returning home and attempting to turn into their neighbourhood near the Police Officers’ Mess along the Bauchi–Jos Road, a Sharon minibus crashed into their motorcycle before speeding off.
Rebecca reportedly hit her head on the road, suffering a fractured skull that claimed her life instantly, while her brother was inj¥red.
An FRSC First Information Report (FIR) said the crash occurred at about 5:15 p.m. Two people, an adult male and an adult female, were involved. The inj¥red victim was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), while Rebecca’s body was deposited in the hospital mortuary. A motorcycle, a women’s hair stretcher and a pair of shoes were recovered from the scene.
Reacting to the tragedy, Rebecca’s mother, Mrs Doris Kambai, described her daughter as her last child and favourite, saying she was brilliant, brought joy to the family and positively changed her life. She accepted the loss as God’s will, thanked everyone who has supported the family through the difficult time, and prayed that God would reward their kindness and comfort them in their own moments of sorrow.
