Commendations pour in as Kano Begins Screening of 1,500 Couples Ahead of 2026 Mass Wedding, Allocates just N1.5 Billion for the Ceremony

The Kano State Government has begun screening 1,500 couples selected to participate in its upcoming mass wedding programme scheduled to hold later this month.

The exercise, which includes medical and premarital assessments, is aimed at ensuring that all prospective couples meet the requirements for marriage before the ceremony takes place.

Speaking during the screening, the Director General of the Kano State Hisbah Board revealed that the state has allocated ₦1.5 billion for the 2026 mass wedding initiative.

He explained that beyond helping couples who may struggle with the financial demands of marriage, the programme is also intended to promote family values and reduce the rate of out-of-marriage births in the state.
