Tonye Cole Reveals Why He Suddenly Withdrew From Rivers APC Governorship Race
According to report by DAILY POST on Wednesday May 20 2026, A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and 2027 governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Tonye Cole has revealed why he withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the decision was made to promote unity within the party.
In a statement on Wednesday, the APC chieftain explained that his withdrawal followed consultations with party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders after meetings held by the party’s national leadership to address internal differences in the Rivers APC.
Cole said he stepped down in the interest of peace, stability, and a united front going into the elections. He described the move as difficult but necessary for the party’s progress. He also pledged support for whoever emerges as the APC candidate and urged his supporters to remain calm and committed to the party’s goals ahead of 2027.
He said,
“This decision was not made lightly. It is the product of deep reflection, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to the stability, growth, and success of our great party and our beloved state.”
