The Only Election For Which We’ve Excluded The Consensus Approach Is The Presidential Primary-Morka

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has clarified that the party has not jettisoned the consensus arrangement in its ongoing primaries, stressing that the model remains valid across all elective offices except one.

Morka made this known during an interview aired on Channels TV on Friday, May 15, 2026, amid growing agitation from aspirants across several states who have accused the party leadership of using the consensus process to impose candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding to suggestions that the party was forcing through a consensus arrangement at the expense of dissenting aspirants, the APC spokesman maintained that any aspirant who declined the outcome of the consensus conversation was entitled under the Electoral Act to trigger a direct primary process. He described both modes as legally recognised and constitutionally compliant.

On the specific exclusion, Morka drew a clear line between the presidential primary and all other contests, dismissing insinuations that the party had applied a blanket consensus policy across board.

“The only election for which we have excluded the consensus approach is the presidential primary,” he said.

He further urged aggrieved aspirants to consult the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution, insisting that adequate safeguards existed within the process to protect the rights of any dissenting contestant.
