Rivers APC Leaders Take Action as Fubara Eyes 2nd Term

According to a report by Premium Times on Friday 1st May 2026, stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have taken a notable political step ahead of the 2027 governorship election by endorsing Governor Siminalayi Fubara and reportedly purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms.

The development was confirmed by a delegation led by House of Representatives member, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, who stated that the move reflects a collective decision by party leaders across the state.

According to Abiante, the endorsement was not an isolated action but a coordinated effort representing

F the broader political sentiment within the APC structure in Rivers State; He explained that the initiative is aimed at promoting continuity in governance based on perceived performance and public approval.

He further noted that similar practices have been witnessed in Nigeria’s political history, where stakeholders at both state and national levels have mobilized support for preferred candidates by securing nomination forms on their behalf.

Abiante emphasized that the decision was driven primarily by public opinion rather than personal or financial motivation; He claimed that many residents of Rivers State have expressed satisfaction with the governor’s leadership and desire continuity in office.

He stated that the action reflects “what the people want,” stressing that political decisions of this nature are often shaped by grassroots sentiment.

The APC delegation pointed to ongoing infrastructural and economic developments under Governor Fubara’s administration as key reasons for the endorsement.

Among the achievements highlighted were improvements in road and waterway connectivity in riverine communities, as well as renewed attention to economic opportunities within the state’s blue economy sector.

Abiante specifically referenced previously underserved areas such as Andoni, noting that access and connectivity have improved significantly in recent months, opening up new economic possibilities for local communities.

He also referenced broader rehabilitation efforts in public infrastructure and what he described as enhanced welfare conditions for residents across the state.

The lawmakers insisted that Governor Fubara was neither involved in nor aware of the purchase of the nomination forms prior to the stakeholders’ decision; They maintained that the action was independently initiated by party leaders who support his continued leadership.

Abiante described the governor as a responsive and people-oriented leader who has demonstrated a commitment to addressing public concerns through practical governance.
