‘Nyesom Wike Is A Likeable Person, And He Likes Me Because I’ve Been An ljaw Leader’ —Dokubo Reveals

The Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has spoken about his relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while addressing political ties and ethnic leadership in Rivers State.

Dokubo made the remarks during a video shared on Facebook on Friday, May 15, 2026, where he discussed his interactions with Wike and the role of ethnic leadership in the political dynamics of the Niger Delta region.

In his statement, he described Wike as someone with whom he shares mutual respect despite political disagreements that may arise from time to time.

He said, “Nyesom Wike is a likeable person, and he likes me because I have been an Ijaw leader,” while reflecting on their relationship and political understanding over the years.

According to him, political relationships in Rivers State are often influenced by long-standing community ties, leadership roles, and mutual recognition among key stakeholders in the region.

Dokubo further explained that although political disagreements may occur, they do not necessarily destroy personal relationships or mutual respect between leaders.

He also noted that ethnic leadership continues to play a significant role in the political structure of the Niger Delta, especially in matters involving representation and regional interests.

The activist maintained that political actors in Rivers State should prioritize dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful engagement in order to strengthen unity and development across the region.

He concluded by urging leaders and supporters to avoid unnecessary hostility in political discussions, stressing that respect and understanding remain important for stability in Rivers State politics.
