My Brother Bala Muhammad, And My Friend Seyi Makinde, I Don’t Know Where They’ll Be Heading To-Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the recent ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the decision has effectively ended divisions within the party.

Speaking in a video aired by Arise TV following the judgment, Wike explained that the court upheld the Abuja convention, which produced Umar Damagum as the party’s National Chairman, while nullifying the Ibadan convention that had produced an opposing leadership. According to him, the ruling clarifies that there is now only one legitimate leadership structure within the PDP.

He emphasized that the outcome reinforces the importance of adhering to party rules and due legal processes, regardless of individual interests. Wike noted that the party should no longer be described as factionalized, as the court’s decision has settled the dispute.

The minister also addressed the position of some party members previously associated with the rival group, including Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde. He expressed uncertainty about their next political moves, particularly amid reports linking them to meetings involving opposition coalitions outside the PDP framework.

Wike suggested that such alternative political arrangements may also be dealing with internal challenges, questioning their direction and viability. He reiterated that the PDP remains the main opposition party and should focus on consolidating its structure following the court’s verdict.

The development marks a significant moment for the PDP as it seeks to rebuild unity and strengthen its position in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of future elections.
