Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq urges President Tinubu to raise minimum wage to ₦100,000

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider increasing Nigeria’s national minimum wage to ₦100,000.

AbdulRazaq made the appeal on Friday in Lagos during a Sallah homage visit by members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to President Tinubu’s residence.

Speaking during the visit, the NGF chairman noted that several states were already paying close to ₦100,000 in wages and argued that a formal review at the national level had become necessary.

“On the issue of minimum wage, most of the states are paying almost 100,000 naira today and I urge your excellency, let’s all have a discussion in moving the minimum wage to 100,000,” he said.

He added that state governments would support the Federal Government in implementing any agreed adjustment to the wage structure.

The call is expected to add to ongoing national discussions around workers’ welfare, inflation, and the review of Nigeria’s wage framework.
